Clover's Log

These three angels aren’t messing around. They want to know what we’re doing out here, in the Rift, the wasteland the Church explicitly forbade travel to just the day before we ventured out here. Oman tries to lead them up to where we’ve just escaped, but they’re not having it. They put him under a paralysis spell. As for me, they want me to fetch the rest of our companions. We try to concoct a cover story for our presence here, but the angels also have a truth spell at their disposal, and we’re not getting away with anything. Before we know it, a wave of magic hits and we’re waking up for interrogation in separate locations—locations from our pasts.

The angels seem to know a lot about us. They question me about my father, about the shards. They want to know about the people hunting Ronan, and about how he knows Oman. They want to know about Brendel’s association with the Syndicate. They question Nyx about her reconstruction of Keys and what she did in the Beholder’s library. From Keys they glean almost nothing, since they want to know about his past, and that’s a blank slate as far as he’s concerned. Nyx and Brendel are by far the most forthcoming. Ronan and Keys have little to offer given the fogginess of their memories. Oman resorts to trying to seduce the angel questioning him in order to avoid answering questions. I simply try to hold back as much as I can under the weight of the truth spell. I don’t know what side these angels are on, and I’ll be damned if I’m giving up my father before I even meet him.

When our illusory environs drop, we are simply in bland prison cells wearing awful burlap. Our gear is nowhere to be seen. At least we’re back in the city, though I failed to get the text my not-father left me. A familiar face soon graces the cells of Nyx and Brendel: Captain Lucas Abreena. He’s helped us escape from prison once before, at the very start of our journey together. He’s an ally, but he is not pleased to see we’ve been captured again. He makes it clear we are to break out as soon as possible and not screw around this time. He gives Nyx a bag of holding with all our gear and a sending stone. He gives Brendel a key. We begin working on an escape plan. We make our move the hour before dawn.
